deviantART alternatives[UPDATED] by EyeballEarth, journal

DeviantArt has seen better days, and for me the uncontrolled AI flood has been the tipping point, I doubt this place is ever going to improve again, not under this management. I've advertised other's journals about deviantArt alternatives in the past but I thought it can't hurt to review some of them myself, the more the merrier. I'll keep updating this journals as I learn about new online art outlets: side7.com: Old fashioned site that feels alot like old deviantArt in parts. Allows illustrations, photography, literature, and audio submissions. It has some features that got replaced/lost with eclipse, like categories. It lacks the ability to create gallery folders as on dA, but has a portfolio option and 'serial' feature intended for webcomics, chapter-based writing, or any other similar art forms, which you can use as substitute for galleries. Not very active currently but with the continual decline of dA place it might grow. No algorithm curated feeds. Newgrounds.com: Allows for

"Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die." Someone posted an interesting article in the forums about how online spaces decline, and I thought it's interesting enough to share. It's using Tiktok as an main example but you'll probably recognize many of the bad things that happened to deviantArt and many other formely cool online spaces, such as algorithms pushing content that brings money rather what people actually want to see, reducing the opportunities to just have fun, connect and communicate with each other in favor of monetization options... https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys

I've decided to nuke my gallery after deviantArt's latest blunder, which was to me merely the most recent of a year long series of fuckups, just made me feel dirty to have stuff in this place at that point. I'm still keeping this account for now for communication purposes, but with my art I've moved on to these places, if you're there feel free to drop by: https://eyeballearth.newgrounds.com/ Both of these sites are pretty nice to be at, and definitly better than this dump here.

Hello! Do you still post new art anywhere, maybe some of the sites like Mastodon or BlueSky? Felt like checking in today, though I never use this place any more, tired of all the AI shit and they still haven't fixed notifications.

Only on newgrounds and side7, links are on my profile but I'm not very active these days.

hey du, frohes Fest !

Dankeschön, dir auch!

I'll say this about Buzzly.art: it's introduced me to some great people I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. Most of them off the site itself.

I'm sorry that I didn't formally start following you sooner. Your repertoire is so diverse I initially mistook it for the fav gallery. It's sorta like my work—except, y'know, actual art. :dummy:

True, the site is, eh, but I also met great people there. Thanks.

Your art is so creative and beautiful!
