So I've been actively deleting most of my gallery. I had 1300 deviations to start, and Da lovingly took out the ability to bulk delete your images, and put a nice little shitty note about how they won't do it for you So kind. Let's be honest, it's to keep images on their site and make the process of leaving that much more a pain in the ass. Because if the images aren't up on here, then how will they soullessly scrape your hard work for big WixBucks? Why did it feel weirdly cathartic to delete 9 daily deviations??? Anyways. So I've been looking into alternatives to DA. SheezyArt - My SheezyArt Page SheezyArt, I think, will be the genuine successor to DA. Ironically, for people not old as sin and don't know, SheezyArt *used* to be the direct competitor of deviantart back in like...2003 -2013. Relaunched in 2021, it's currently in a beta until 2025. Starting today, deviations created using AI tools will need to be labeled as "Created using AI tools." Additionally, improvements are being made to browse settings, allowing deviants to more precisely control how much AI art they experience while browsing. Labeling Your Artwork UPDATE (July 19, 2023): Starting today, this label will be automatically applied if an image’s metadata indicates that it was created with AI. This metadata is embedded in images generated by most major AI tools. When submitting artwork, you will now see a required setting on the submit page to indicate whether or not your work was created using AI tools. This setting will be remembered when you submit, so it shouldn’t regularly impact your submission flow. Once submitted, a label stating “Created using AI tools” will appear on the deviation. If you are going to force Eclipse on everyone, the least you can do is fix and finish the website first! This is meant to be a comprehensive, alphabetized list of all the features that are either tarnished by Eclipse, flat-out removed, hidden, or replaced. I am currently noticing that my number of views on Deviantart is dropping and it is not without reason. Indeed, since Wix bought the site, more and more questionable and unethical managerial decisions are made since this summer. Disclaimer: whoever brings up the artstyle into this discussion will be immediately discovered for being unable to read, because the article below never mentions anything about it :) Consider that AI generation has been built by scraping open source internet, consuming countless drawings that have COPYRIGHTS on them, without asking for the artists' consent. All the databases were built upon non-consenting data. AI generators massively infringe copyrights of artists whose artwork has been fed to the machine, and it all does not fall under fair use. Fair use is defined by NOT devaluing the edited work. However, AI does devalue artists, as is seen by countless people claiming that artists are now worthless, because the machine learned from them and now can do it for free/cheaper. DeviantArt has seen better days, and for me the uncontrolled AI flood has been the tipping point, I doubt this place is ever going to improve again, not under this management. I've advertised other's journals about deviantArt alternatives in the past but I thought it can't hurt to review some of them myself, the more the merrier. I'll keep updating this journals as I learn about new online art outlets: side7.com: Old fashioned site that feels alot like old deviantArt in parts. Allows illustrations, photography, literature, and audio submissions. It has some features that got replaced/lost with eclipse, like categories. It lacks the ability to create gallery folders as on dA, but has a portfolio option and 'serial' feature intended for webcomics, chapter-based writing, or any other similar art forms, which you can use as substitute for galleries.
